Demi Lovato has suffered “what appears to be” a heroin overdose. The singer has reportedly been admitted to a Los Angeles, Calif. hospital, law enforcement has informed TMZ.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirms to Yahoo Entertainment they responded to a medical emergency at the 8000 block of Laurel View Dr. at 11:40 a.m. Yahoo Entertainment reached out to a publicist for Lovato, but didn’t immediately receive a response.

This news comes on the heels of the release of her song “Sober,” in which she admits that she had fallen off the wagon.

Lovato has always been open about her struggles with mental illness, specifically her substance abuse, eating disorders, and cutting. In her 2017 documentary Simply Complicated, she said her first encounter with drinking and partying was in high school, and it all escalated during her Disney Channel days. She said she “loved” it. “My dad was an addict and an alcoholic. Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family,” she said in the film.

She’s been determined to find her way back to health. In 2011, she entered treatment for bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm, and addiction. Unfortunately, she relapsed shortly after, but then entered a sober living facility for a year.

She celebrated six years sober this past March. Unfortunately, something happened between then and the release of “Sober.”
